We are pleased to announce the winner of the PET Heroes 2023 award, a global search for individuals, companies, and organizations working towards a regenerative path for PET plastic.
Firstly, it was a tough decision to make. the AdaPETation Network, in collaboration with Evertis & Selenis and regenerative agency Dear Wise Earth, received numerous nominations for inspiring PET Heroes who are actively closing the loop on plastic waste and promoting the intelligent use of plastic.
After careful consideration, the winner of the €10,000 non-dilutive funding and the opportunity to work with other members of The AdaPETation Network to develop their prototype, business idea, or regenerative venture in 2023 is Helena Navarro of the Pablo Horstmann Pediatric Hospital in Lamu, Kenya who was nominated for their innovative and impactful solution towards regenerative design and the restoration of ecosystems.
Helena’s work has demonstrated the importance of PET plastic, and their dedication to finding sustainable and innovative solutions to plastic waste is commendable.
“We are proud to recognize the amazing work carried out by each of our PET Heroes 2023 nominees,” said Rocio Arranz, marketing manager at Evertis & Selenis, the principal sponsor of the prize.
“Their initiatives motivate us in continuing to walk this regenerative path for PET plastic. This project is an important milestone for the AdaPETation Network, demonstrating that we can come together as a community and create positive change.
“It was very difficult to decide between all these great participants, who have, with different approaches, searched the way into improving the world for future generations through plastic circularity. These individuals are true role models, inspiring us to create a more sustainable future. We thank them for their incredible efforts and look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next!”
“Special congratulations to Helena Navarro, our first PET Heroes winner, who has shown her commitment to this contest while maintaining an inspiring dedication to her initiative.”
Helena and her team have been recognized for their innovative use of recycled plastic bottles to create respiratory devices for children with difficulty breathing.
Their devices, including inhalation chambers, CPAP machines, and drainage systems, are saving lives and reducing plastic waste in their community.
The innovative solution touched the hearts of the followers of the AdaPETation network receiving more than 90% of the votes from the public.
As the winner of PET Heroes 2023, Helena will receive regenerative insights, business training, communications support, networking opportunities, and funding for her regenerative ideas. We look forward to supporting Helena and her team as they continue their important work.
We would like to thank all the nominees for their inspiring work and commitment to a regenerative future. We look forward to working closely with all of them in our mission to expand our collective understanding and awareness of the intelligent use of plastic and to support regenerative initiatives within the PET polymers industry.
